denialism │ noun │ de·ni·al·ism │ a person’s choice to deny reality, as a way to avoid the truth; a Tampa-based cosplayer more interested in playing pretend than being a real life adult.
Shunning even her own name for the sake of make believe, Julia (Denialism Cosplay) began attending cons in 2007, during the height of the Narutardation of the convention scene. With no more to her ‘costume’ than a ninja headband, she vowed to one day be among the ranks of her newfound idols, wearing a wig and bearing the pain of an elaborate cosplay with the best of them. Fast forward to 2014, when that nerdy little spark grew into a raging inferno that devoured not only Denialism’s heart, but also all her time and money. Today, she travels to cons all over the east coast and strives to expand her skill set with each costume she makes. As a frequent contest competitor, her focus on clean construction and attention to detail are…admittedly a little concerning, but we’ll just chalk it up to dedication. Some of her most popular cosplays are Raven, Nonon Jakuzure, and Ruby Rose.
