You don’t even have to watch anime for some! This game is convention-tested, and the anime in the game represent a wide variety of genres and years. Come and compete for glory!

A trivia game for the ages, with an exciting, anime spin! Come and compete with other attendees in Jeopardy, with categories ranging across genres and years. All questions are convention-tested, and we’ll be playing single, double, and final Jeopardy.

4:00-5:00 Masculinity? In My Anime? (PG)

With discussions of gender in media at the center of controversy in recent years, it’s important to examine the place of such discussions in subculture media as well. So join me as we examine anime through how it codifies ‘maleness’, how it chooses to represent male characters, how it shows them interacting with characters of others genders, how the works reflect their artists and culture, and how masculinity is subverted. Everything from BL to Jojo’s.

4:00-5:00 LGBT+ in Anime (PG-13)

Positive portrayals of LGBT+ characters in media help LGBT+ people feel represented and visible. In anime, like in many forms of media, there is an issue with creators coding unsympathetic villains as LGBT+. This panel focuses on anime and its positive LGBT+ representation, criticizes harmful portrayals of LGBT+ people in anime, and asks participants about anime characters that might have helped them discover their own LGBT+ identities.

Dolewhip and Dreams is a new Gainesville based Podcast where host Matty Limerick (UF Graduate Student) takes a deep dive into the Disney Vault, and looks at the History of a film, how it breaks ground, whether it was received well, and how it stacks up in 2019/2020.  It is a Biweekly show where Matty has guests that range from Broadway performers, to imagineers, voice actors, etc discuss their connection to the film. This would be the podcast’s first live episode, where the audience becomes our fabulous second guest. And seeing as a the theme is Hacked, I figured this would be a great chance to do Wreck It Ralph as our Episode film!  So not only is the podcast and panel fun, but I also hope that everyone will learn a few things about our favorite Disney Films.
